The Facebook Pixel is a bit of code provided by Facebook that you can install on your website. When you place this code on your website, it uses cookies to give you access to information that will help you optimize your Facebook ads by building targeted audiences and remarketing to leads.

Even if you're not ready to use Facebook ads quite yet, we recommend that you setup the Facebook pixel now. It will start providing information that will make your first ads even better when you are ready.

And if you've been using the Facebook pixel for quite awhile, you might need to do some updating. The Facebook conversion pixel was discontinued back in 2017, so if you were using it, you'll need to make a new one, as described below. If you were using a Custom Audience pixel, then you'll need to upgrade to the current Facebook Pixel, which you can learn how to do here.

Creating a Facebook Pixel in Facebook Business Manager

By default, you can make one Facebook Pixel for each ad account. If you setup Facebook Business Manager, however, you can create up to 100 pixels.

You likely won't ever need those 100 pixels, but it's a good idea to setup Facebook Business Manager anyway. Using Business Manager is the only way to upload customer lists to Facebook so that you can run targeted ads to the people in your sphere of influence. And if you have multiple websites that you use for business, you will be able to create a unique pixel for each of these to track their unique activity.

Once you've setup Business Manager, you'll follow the steps below to create your first pixel.

  1. Go to Business Settings in Business Manager
  2. Select your business
  3. Click Data Sources
  4. Select Pixels
  5. Click the + Add button
  6. Type in a name for your pixel -- something having to do with the domain you plan to use it with would be best (i.e. thepaperlessagent.com Pixel)
  7. Enter your website URL
  8. Click Create
  9. To start installing your pixel on your website, click Set up the Pixel Now

Note: If you are using the AgentID Sites, the marketing website included with your Marketing Club membership, Facebook might prompt you to "Use WordPress to set up the pixel." DO NOT choose this option. Instead, click on "Edit your website's code to setup the pixel" and refer to our help article below:
