When you setup your AgentID Site, you will be given the choice to use either a subdomain or a root domain. You can only have EITHER a subdomain or a root domain for your AgentID Site. You cannot have both.

A subdomain is a domain that is a part of a larger domain. The only domain that is not a subdomain is the root domain

To help you better understand the difference between the two, consider an example: sarah.myagent.site is a subdomain while myagent.site is the root domain.

Should I Use a Subdomain or a Root Domain for My AgentID Site?

Subdomains are easy to set up and free. You won't have to change any Domain Name Server (DNS) records with this option. These domains are less likely to be ranked on Google (meaning they are less likely to be able to work their way up to page 1 results). Therefore, if your goal for the AgentID Site is to enhance your online presence, but you already have a well-established website, then a subdomain may be a good choice for you.

Root domains have to be purchased through a registrar (such as GoDaddy, which we highly recommend). These domains have better Google results and can potentially make it to the first page of search results. If you purchase a root domain, you must also change the Domain Name Servers (DNS records) to point to the AgentID Site as well, could take up to 48 hours to take effect and requires some technical savviness. If you do not have a well-established website and need to build one, a root domain may be the option for you.

Moving Forward with Your Subdomain or Root Domain Choice

Using a subdomain:

  • You do not need to purchase anything extra to use or set up the subdomain. Simply type in your choice of subdomain name in the AgentID Site setup wizard.
  • Subdomains on the AgentID Site can only be used 1 per person. For example, if someone already used sarah.myagent.site then I would have to use sarahd.myagent.site or some other combination of letters to make my subdomain unique. This prevents any confusion between your site and any other member's site.

Using a root domain:
